Destroying the Barriers to Love

I could quote philosophers and Rumi all day long. Something that has been ringing in my ear over and over is one of Rumi’s most famous quotes: “Your job is not to find love, your job is to destroy any barriers to love within you.” This Bzam quote also makes me think of how we process the journey to love and the process of finding it within; because that’s all we’re ever doing, trying to find love within. ☾
Your job isn’t to find love, to create it, to sustain it, to maintain it. You are perfectly designed with an ever abundant source of divine love within you. It’s like searching for water when you are sitting atop a fresh spring. Why are you searching for something that you alone hold the eternal key to? ☾
People (or romantic comedies) often say that falling in romantic love makes “the sun shine brighter, birds chirp louder” and people chase that ego-validation and that sense that love will fix anything in your life. They talk about love as if it’s a plumber caulk that will seep over any crack and make it water-tight. That’s never how this works. (‘That’s not how this works, that’s not how any of this works!’ – name that commercial) ☾
Your job is only to tap into the source of divine love that you already are. Not to find it. You are love. You are a spring. You are meant and designed to spread that love amongst everything around you, flooding the streets with it. Don’t know where to start? The answer is always the same: self-love. Start there, and the rest will come like rushing water.
