Do you know how terribly Michelangelo’s back ached during the painting of the Sistine Chapel? Michelangelo wrote a sonnet about the pains of creating the great work, summed up in the final line, “Since foul I fare and painting is my shame.” What is widely regarded as the greatest example of Renaissance art in the world, caused Michelangelo so much pain he was rumored to have quit the project several times. The lesson? …love the process more than Michelangelo did. ☾
Maybe Michelangelo knew what the Sistine Chapel was going to become. Maybe he didn’t. He had to invent a new kind of scaffolding in order to complete the project. You and your path to enlightenment, the divinity within you, and your destiny — these things are all your own Sistine Chapel. Except you are both canvas and painter. You are both the fresco and Michelangelo. You are your own divine version of the Sistine Chapel. ☾
It took Michelangelo four years to complete the Sistine Chapel. Our paths to enlightenment can take most of our lives. Manifesting your “finished” destiny (even though there are separate issues with that phrase, destiny is ongoing) can take a few years. You might manifest a goal in days or weeks. So enjoy the process more than Michelangelo did. Love each sketch, each new layer of paint, each corner of the mosaic that is revealed to you. ☾
We are all great masters. We each have our own divine works inside of us. So while creating your own heavenly-guided Sistine Chapel, love the process a lot more than Michelangelo did — and your finished work could rival his.
