I had a real fear of vulnerability and intimacy that stretches back to an abusive relationship in my early 20’s. In the years that followed, I consistently felt my walls go up and believed that it was a right that I had to keep them there and to deny myself vulnerability. I treated it like an innate privilege that I had; I felt as though if I didn’t tread in the arena of intimacy and vulnerability, I wouldn’t have to deal with any heartbreak or ‘negative’ emotions. I would be able to stay in control. ☾
I’ve had to change my mindset. I view intimacy and honesty as a blessing. I owe it to myself to usher that into my life. I DESERVE that in my life, just by existing and honoring those I am in a relationship with. It isn’t something that I’m afraid of anymore (although it’s a process, I’m still cautious, and that’s okay while I’m a work in progress) Instead of believing that vulnerability brings negative emotions into my life, that honesty and intimacy is something that I deserve and that wasn’t respected in my previous relationship — which isn’t my problem. It should be honored in self, and others’ reaction to it is out of your control. ☾
Change the way that you view relationships, emotions, and communications. Set intentions to disrupt the walls and the matrix boundaries that we’ve been taught to keep.
