Happy Feast of Joan of Arc! Joan of Arc was one of the first historical characters that I became obsessed with (one of many). I remember visiting my Grandma Molly in New Orleans when I was ten years old. In the French Quarter, in between her home and the open air market, was a gleaming statue of Joan of Arc. My Grandmother told me her story for the first time when I asked who the statue was for. “She listened to God, which is all you can do.” ☾
Joan of Arc heard the voices of God and spirit when she was a teenager and went on to be a commander of the French forces. However, the English burned her at the stake as a witch – but now she’s celebrated as part of the Catholic canon. There’s a lot of duality in Joan of Arc’s acceptance and rejection, she is viewed as both a Christian representative who heard God’s voice and as a witch. Female characters throughout history have been persecuted in this way, oftentimes for walking in enlightenment, healing, and their own calling. ☾
On the Feast of Joan of Arc today, light a candle and say a prayer. Give thanks that the spirit sends us these messages to guide our lives and that no call is ever “too crazy.” Joan of Arc was barely a teenager living on a farm who went on to lead French forces in the military to multiple victories. Your future is determined by two things: the universe and by your acceptance of the universe’s call. Pray for the courage and the faith to go after the call that spirit has on your life. ☾
Be courageous in the face of adversity, listen not to those who do not understand the messages that are only coming to you, and embrace every weird, crazy, and seemingly insane message that comes from the universe. You’re well on your way to being the commander of your forces, should you choose to accept your mission.
